Soundgarden – Ultramega OK
After enjoying Soundgarden’s music for years, I’ve finally given the debut album a proper listen. It’s so cool to hear the very beginning of what would become one of the most influential grunge bands of the 90s. And even back then, Chris Cornell seemed to be already on top of his game with his insane vocal range!
Jon Hopkins – Music For Psychedelic Therapy
Never before have I experienced such a heavenly soundscape. I’m actually somewhat hesitant to put into words what “Music For Psychedelic Theraphy” is like, you really have to experience it for yourself. Lay down, put the lights out and let yourself be taken away on an epic meditative journey through time and space.
Danny Vera – Pressure Makes Diamonds
“Roller Coaster”, track three on this album, became one of the most succesful songs on Dutch radio last year. It’s also one of the first songs I learned on acoustic guitar. Out of curiousity I decided to check out the album, and it didn’t disappoint. “Pressure Makes Diamonds” has a fresh americana sound, and you’d never guess it was made by a Dutch artist!
Foo Fighters – Medicine At Midnight
At release date, I wasn’t feeling this album. However, recently I randomly stumbled upon opening track “Making A Fire” again and this time it somehow caught my attention. It’s refreshing to see Foo Fighters experiment with elements of dance rock and disco, but the lyrics are kind of lackluster sometimes. A fun and bright album, but not as memorable as some of their early efforts.
Purple Disco Machine – Exotica
I coincidentally stumbled upon even more prominent disco vibes with “Exotica”. Radio hits “Dopamine” and “Hypnotized” I was already familiar with, so I decided to give the full album a go as well. With hints of 80s disco, funky bass and keyboards and a touch of modern music production, “Exotica” provides a surprisingly fun listening experience!

S I N G L E S
Songs that have caught my attention.
Thrice – “Scavengers”
Great song from a less impressive album.
The Horse Heads – “Bulldozer”
Latest loudnessfest by the awesome UK punk band.
Kane – “Shot of a Gun”
A friend reminded me of this Dutch radio hit and it immediately took me back to elementary school.
